Sally and I discuss the Scripts and limiting stories and beliefs we may carry with us that are holding us back from having a more awesome life! We discuss how procrastination gets in the way of us thriving and how we can sabotage ourselves with our limiting beliefs and thoughts. We discuss the importance of self-love and how we can literally achieve anything we desire!
Everyone has scripts!
These are the messages that we play to ourselves in the background. These limiting beliefs sneak in under the radar when we are vulnerable and under stress. They can infiltrate our consciousness in childhood and remain embedded until we face them with courage as adults. Some of them have been with us for so long that we do not even realise that they are there.
Some of these limiting beliefs include:
- I can’t do this,
- It’s just too hard
- This is impossible
- I’m not good enough
- I’m not pretty enough
- I’m not clever enough
- I’ll never find anyone
Choose Love and do beautiful things
Self-love is the bedrock of loving others, being loved and following your dream with passion.
Research by Kristin Neff reveals that self-compassion builds resilience and effectiveness. You can check your self-compassion here. Yes, we all make mistakes and it is human to fail. Forgiveness is equally important, jettison any long-held grudges and have the conversations you need to have with your parents before they pass on.
Jim Carrey gave an inspirational speech which might change your life. It might allow you to jettison some of the limiting beliefs which are holding you back.
You can avoid a life of quiet desperation
There is a famous quote from David Thoreau, “The mass of men live lives of quiet desperation” and die with their song still inside them. Don’t be one of these people.
Seek out your negative self-talk and replace it with positive beliefs. If you write down all your scripts, you can examine their truth and retire those that are no longer valid.
One great way to seek out your scripts is to examine why you procrastinate, and as Sally points out procrastination usually sits on top of a fear of failure.
My top three tips to banish your scripts to allow you to follow your dreams
- Acknowledge your inner critic and your negative scripts
- Ask yourself where they come from. – Dig deep, often you will need to go back to your childhood
- Adopt your dreams with courage and discards those negative scripts.
